ATLANTA YOUTH WIND SYMPHONY The Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony (AYWS) was founded in 1988 as the premier honor wind ensemble for high school youth in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Its purposes are to provide a positive musical experience in an artistic environment for advanced instrumentalists in wind and percussion performance, and to supplement the outstanding music education programs in the public and private schools in the region. The AYWS rehearses and performs grade five and six (collegiate and professional) original wind band literature composed over a wide span of stylistic compositional periods. As an ensemble, it is one of the most visible ambassadors of culture and youth performance for the city of Atlanta and state of Georgia. The Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony will present its next concert on Monday, May 20th, featuring Bremer's Early Light, Copland's Suite from The Red Pony, and Ron Nelson's Aspen Jubilee. Admission and parking are free, and a reception follows the concert. The AYWS has been invited to perform at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, June 29, 2013. This one-week West Coast tour will include current AYWS members and recent alumni.
