Charles Schisler joined the Emory College faculty in 1988. He holds a Bachelor's degree from West Chester University and a Master's degree from Temple University. From 1956 to 1958 he studied organ at the Munich State Academy with Karl Richter. His Ph.D. is from Indiana University.

In 1969 Dr. Schisler joined the faculty of the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, where he also served as Director of Summer Session, which he initiated in 1970. From 1975 to 1988 he was Dean of the College. Before going to Westminster he was on the faculty of The Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Schisler was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Westminster in 1988.
