The Department of Music provides opportunities for the study and performance of music under the guidance of a distinguished faculty of performers, composers, and scholars.
Undergraduate students at Emory who major in music work toward a Bachelor of Arts degree. In order to declare the music major, students must successfully pass an audition on a primary instrument. The B.A. degree program provides a solid grounding in theory and musicianship, continued development as a performer through individual instruction and ensemble performance, and a comprehensive background in the history and literature of music. Music majors at Emory work regularly with outstanding performing artists, professional coaches and accompanists. Students who excel in music research or composition are eligible to apply for funding to support individual projects. The Department of Music also offers a minor in music that requires no audition, and Emory College allows a double major.
