Emory Youth Chamber Music Program with the Vega Quartet:

Open RehearsalThe Vega Chamber Music Program is a contribution to the Atlanta Community proudly presented by the Vega String Quartet. The purpose of the program is to fill the gap between the various youth symphony orchestra activities and private teaching in the Atlanta area.

Chamber music, parallel with orchestra music and solo music, is one of the major genres of classical music. The characteristics of the Chamber Music are:

  1. The music is played by a small group of musicians without a conductor.

  2. Each player, unlike in the orchestra, has his own individual part.

  3. The group size varies generally from 2–9 people.

The unique communication and intimacy thus created among the performers, and what it brings into the music have attracted all the great masters of music history, from Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven to Debussy, Schoenberg and Bartok, to write Jessica Wu Coachingfor this genre. The vast repertoire produced by these greatest composers has been keeping generations of performers wandering, exploring and continuously provoked, challenged and inspired.

Chamber music teaches the performers how to play as a team, how to support, enhance and even inspire each other, yet allows every performer to express his individuality and blossom through music.

Chamber music is sophisticated yet approachable. For people who has been through orchestra training, chamber music study will bring your playing to a new level; for people who eventually want to taste orchestra playing, chamber music is an easier but much more efficient first step because it teaches you the basics including how to listen, how to watch, how to be together and at the most advanced level, how to differ.
